Freelance Translator – from/to: English – French – Portuguese – Spanish

Chilean-born of Belgian parentage. Studied at the Collège de l’Alliance Française – from Nursery to Baccalaureate. Excelled in Languages. Completed Engineering (Mechanics) Curriculum at the Technical State University – UTE – in 1963.

Selected by IOM (International Organization for Migration) Chile Mission, in February 1964 – significantly due to full command of IOM official languages - as Officer in charge of its Migration for Development Program. This was aimed at providing skilled migrants workers/first line supervisors to local firms. Transferred afterwards successively to the IOM Brazil (1972), Colombia (1975), and Venezuela (1977) Missions, in the same capacity and program duties, which entailed significant translation/interpretation responsibilities.

Assigned (Nov 1979) to IOM’s Humanitarian Asian Refuge program at the Thailand IOM field Mission, as Head of its Management & Finance unit, supervising financial, personnel, premises and equipment matters.
Appointed in April 1984, as Head of the Field Personnel Unit at IOM Geneva HQs, to oversee all staffing and personnel matters in IOM’s 72 Field Missions.
Throughout this career, his original three languages (and the acquired fluent Portuguese - in Brazil, oral Thai - in Bangkok and functional levels of Italian and German - in Europe), were of a constant major communicational help to further it.

Opted for an early partial retirement in December 1996, and began freelance spare time translating - which continued fully when retired in Chile, in December 2001 - to this date. Member No. 129 of COTICH; Chile’s Translators and Interpreters’ Association.
